When you telephone the SHBC Contact Centre, your call may be recorded. The main reason why your call is recorded is to protect both parties to the call. If there is a dispute about the contents of the call, for example, then the recording may be referred to in order to help resolve any disagreement. Calls may be recorded to protect staff from aggressive, abusive or nuisance calls. Callers to our main number 01276 707100 will hear a recorded message advising that calls may be recorded. Recordings are kept for 1 year. If you have a dispute and need to obtain a copy of a call recording, please contact FOI@surreyheath.gov.uk in the first instance.

If you have been unreasonably persistent, vexatious or aggressive towards council staff, the council may need to take steps to invoke the ‘Unreasonable, Persistent and Vexatious Communication & Complaints Policy and Procedure’ which could result in your personal details being placed on a customer register for a set period, the register is securely stored and access controlled with only staff with a need to know having access.  The council will inform you of its decision to place you on the register, unless it is not deemed continuative to the complaint or it is not safe to do so.
