You will need to book a knowledge test.
How to book
To do this, please phone 01276 707100. You will be offered a date and time to take the test. You will need to provide your
- full name
- email address
- mobile phone number.
A non-refundable fee of £60 is payable at the time of booking.
We’ll email you to confirm when your test will take place. Please read it carefully. The email will contain:
- details about the test
- when you need you need to arrive
- what you should bring with you
Test details
It will take approximately one hour. You won’t be allowed into the test if you are late. If you arrive late or fail to attend without giving us at least 48 hours notice, you may have to pay a further fee to book another test.
The test is broken down into four sections:
- Highway code and general legislation
- Borough points of interest
- Safeguarding
- Conditions and policy
Preparing for your test
To prepare for the knowledge test we would suggest that you read
- Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy 2021 to 2026
- The Highway Code which is available on the GOV.UK website (external link)
You should also ensure you are familiar with the geography of the area. You cannot bring electronic devices such as a mobile phone or smart watch into the test.
