All applicants are required to provide evidence of their criminal history using the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced disclosure application form, which is also referred to as a criminal records check. The results of the check will help the council determine whether the applicant is a ‘fit and proper’ person to be granted a licence. The licence will not be granted until the results of this check are known.
The council use a company called TaxiPlus to help applicants through the process and get an enhanced DBS certificate quickly.
If you have any questions about obtaining a DBS check then please visit the FAQs page on the TaxiPlus website (external link).

Convictions policy – important information
The convictions policy provides prospective private hire drivers with clarity as to Surrey Heath Borough Council’s requirements with respect to convictions and the effect of any convictions on whether a licence will be granted. A licence will not be granted unless the Licensing Authority is satisfied that you are a ‘fit and proper’ person to hold a licence. It is essential that applicants carefully read the taxi and private hire licensing assessment of previous convictions policy before applying.
