Surrey Heath Borough Council is celebrating its golden anniversary of public service after being first incorporated on 1 April 1974.
We share this milestone with many other councils established after the Local Government Act of 1972.
Surrey Heath was created by combining two former districts – Frimley and Camberley Urban District and Bagshot Rural District.
The name, Surrey Heath Borough Council, reflected the extensive areas of heathland.
From April 2024 – July 2024, we’re hoping to come together with our communities to look back on the last 50 years of public service, and look towards the next 50 years to come.
To mark this significant milestone, the council is encouraging local communities to join in the celebrations by organising their own events and add them to the calendar of events on the council's website.
Residents and businesses are also encouraged to share their favourite memory, moment or thing about Surrey Heath on social media, uploading photos using #SurreyHeathAt50 or by emailing photographs to web.support@surreyheath.gov.uk (link sends email).
More information can be found on the Surrey Heath turning 50 webpage.
