Councillor Pat Tedder was chosen as the 51st Mayor of Surrey Heath at the Annual Meeting of Surrey Heath Borough Council on Wed 17 May.

Cllr Tedder was a councillor for Chobham ward from 2011, and since May 2019 has been a councillor for the Windlesham and Chobham Ward.

At the Mayor-making ceremony, Cllr Tedder was sworn in as Mayor of Surrey Heath for the forthcoming year, receiving the Mayoral chain of office.

Cllr Tedder succeeds the previous Surrey Heath Mayor, Mrs Helen Whitcroft.

Cllr Sarbie Kang, who represents Bisley and West End ward, was elected Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Tedder was born in Windlesham and has spent all of her life in the area. She has raised her family, worked as a PA to a local company director, and been deeply involved in her local community in many ways to preserve its uniqueness and invaluable local assets and amenities for future generations.

Cllr Tedder has been a Chobham Parish Councillor for over 30 years, and has served on many committees and local charities during that time, including as a Governor of Valley End School.

Cllr Tedder is the current Chairman of the WC Lees Resthouses in Windlesham, and an active member and officer of the Chobham Royal British Legion. She is also Chairman of the Valley End Institute, having helped save this valuable community asset from dereliction.

Cllr Tedder was married to Les, her husband for 55 years, before he passed away in 2019. She has two children and four grandchildren. Her daughter Elizabeth will be accompanying her during her term of office.

Since her election in 2011, Cllr Tedder has served on various committees including External Partnerships, Licensing and Planning Applications. She has also represented the Council on a number of Outside Bodies, including Chobham Common Liaison Group, Henry Smith Charity, Miss Gomms Trust, Surrey County Playing Fields Association, and SCC’s Local Area Committee.

Cllr Tedder was previously Mayor of Surrey Heath during 2020-21, when her year of office was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. During her second Mayoral year, Cllr Tedder intends to raise the profile of the army of unseen volunteers and good Samaritans that provide much needed support to so many within the Borough, demonstrating the power of community spirit.

Cllr Tedder said: “I am very honoured and proud to represent the Borough of Surrey Heath as its 51st Mayor.”
