The Great British Spring Clean and Great Big School Clean 2024 is taking place from 15 - 31 March, and you can pledge to pick up a bag of litter – or more.

Last year, an army of amazing #LitterHeroes pledged to pick more than 400,000 bags of litter in the UK.
Many volunteers regularly find ‘retro rubbish’ that was dropped many years ago but is still causing harm to our environment today, releasing greenhouse gases as it slowly breaks down in our soil and water, which contributes to the climate crisis.
The good news is that litter-picking is a simple action that anyone can do. It makes an immediate and visible difference to the environment where we live, work and play. In fact around 95% of people surveyed after 2023's campaign agreed they felt they had made a difference to their local area, and 91% said they felt part of a national movement that is taking action to tackle litter.
The Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor Pat Tedder, Councillors, Keep Britain Tidy volunteers, Council Officers, staff from our partner organisations, Accent Housing, Joint Waste Solutions and representatives from McDonalds and Calisan (Smart Energy), and others at Watchmoor Nature Reserve in Camberley on Friday 15 March for a productive litter pick.
Councillor Morgan Rise, Portfolio Holder for Net Zero, Wellbeing and Environment Portfolio Holder, Surrey Heath Borough Council, said; “It is great to see so many people out today litter picking and many thanks to everyone in the borough who takes time to pick up litter. It really makes a difference to our verges and green spaces and also helps to protect our plants and wildlife.
Please remember to always put your litter in a bin and pick up after your dog. If you see fly tipping you can report it on our website using the link below and the Council’s Green Space Team will arrange for the fly tip to be cleared.”
