Do you own a business that operates from a retail unit?  You could qualify for funding of up to £3,500 to improve the appearance of your business.

The Surrey Heath Shopfront Improvement Grant scheme offers grants of up to £3,500 to businesses to improve and enhance their shop front, windows, doors and signage.

Councillor Kel Finan-Cooke, Portfolio Holder for Economic and Income Development, Surrey Heath Borough Council said;

“If your business qualifies for this grant I strongly encourage you to apply, the Council is keen to support business owners in Surrey Heath and a great looking shop front will provide your customers with a great first impression.

“This grant programme has already helped a variety of commercial enterprises, including cafes and hairdressers, to improve the appearance of their business.”

Improving our towns and villages

High quality frontages and vibrant shops make our borough feel more welcoming to residents and visitors, improves the local area’s image, contributes towards a stronger sense of identity and encourages a greater number of visits – supporting and increasing economic growth.

Who can apply?

The Shop Front Improvement Grant Scheme is available to businesses operating in retail and eateries and are:

•  Freeholder owners

•  Leaseholders tenants as long as the terms of their current lease arrangement on the property are appropriate, there is a minimum of three years left of the lease term and they have owner’s consent

•  Located within Surrey Heath.

Grants will not be given for expenditure incurred prior to the grant offer being made and the Grant Offer Letter signed.

The scheme will prioritise small and independent businesses, and preference will be given to those businesses with less than five locations in the UK.

How much is the grant for?

Businesses can apply for up to 50% of the costs of the works, up to a maximum of £3,500 towards the external renovation or improvements of ground floor and upper floor premises’ facades. This means businesses will still need to finance the remaining amount.

We have set a maximum grant of £3,500 in order to assist as many businesses as possible.

In memory of Kevin Cantlon

Surrey Heath Borough Council continue to recognise the legacy of Kevin Cantlon, the Council’s Economic Development Officer who sadly passed away suddenly in 2017. Kevin was a genuine and dedicated officer for the Council and as a mark of respect the Council agreed to dedicate this fund as a legacy to Kevin.
