House of Fraser – Camberley town centre

Surrey Heath Borough Council (SHBC) is disappointed that House of Fraser has decided to close their store in Camberley alongside store closures in other towns.

We have worked closely with the House of Fraser Group and have given them substantial support keeping the Camberley store open after the original company went into administration in 2018 and over half their stores closed.

SHBC has contacted the House of Fraser Group to offer assistance to their management team to ensure any staff affected by their decision to close the store are supported and aware of all employment opportunities across the Borough.

As disappointing as the imminent closure is, the Council has been working on alternative plans for the building, including complete modernisation and refurbishment, in case House of Fraser chose to leave.  These plans include improved retail and hospitality areas, offices and community facilities such as health and civic uses. Now that House of Fraser has confirmed they are leaving conversations will take place with interested parties to drive the redevelopment of this important building forward as quickly as possible. Further updates will be made later in the year.

The Council has well developed plans for future investment in Camberley, building on a number of recent successes including our wonderful new Places Leisure Camberley Centre, new housing units including those in the landmark Lumina scheme and the recent refurbishment of The Square Shopping Centre and the High Street, Princess Way and Knoll Walk.

The Council is working with all partners to ensure that the Town remains a great place for business and for our residents.
