A special flag raising event and two minutes silence took place at 9am on Friday 8 September at Surrey Heath House for 999 Emergency Services Day.

The event was attended by The Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Pat Tedder, Surrey Heath Borough Council (SHBC) Leader, Cllr Shaun Macdonald, Surrey Police Officers, SHBC Councillors and SHBC Officers.

The Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Pat Tedder said:

“In Surrey Heath we are incredibly lucky to have the most amazing emergency services teams and we have all seen examples of their tremendous efforts, dedication, commitment and care, and today we pay tribute to them.

By being here and raising this flag, we acknowledge them all and their consistent and unwavering support. Personally, and on behalf of the borough, I’d like to say a huge thank you to each and every member of the emergency services, 999 volunteers and first responders.”

Cllr Tedder also paid tribute to HM The Queen, as the 8 September also marks the first anniversary of her passing.

National Emergency Services Day was founded in 2016 and is a national day across the UK, supported by His Majesty the King, HRH The Prince of Wales, the Prime Minister and First Ministers of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.  Find out more on the 999 Day website https://www.999day.org.uk/ (link is external).
