In a collaborative new anti-burglary campaign #SafeAndSound, Surrey Heath Borough Council Leader joins forces with Surrey Police & Cadets, Accent Housing and Neighbourhood Watch.
Cllr Shaun Macdonald, Leader of Surrey Heath Borough Council along with Cllr Richard Wilson, Cllr Shaun Garrett and Cllr Josh Thorne, patrolled wards Mytchett, Chobham, Bagshot, St Pauls and Old Dean discussing crime prevention, providing leaflets and safety advice.
Cllr Shaun Macdonald said "I stand united with our police and community partners in the fight against burglary.
“Our active involvement demonstrates a commitment to working collectively to keep our borough safe and secure and build a resilient neighbourhood together, we’re sending a clear message that we are committed to protecting our residents."
The areas patrolled had been chosen due to properties being the victim of burglary in the last three years. The campaign aims to raise awareness to the importance of making homes look occupied, particularly during the hours of dusk and darkness. Surrey Police continue to visit other affected areas of the Borough.
Follow these simple tips to keep your home as safe as possible:
- Make sure you leave a light and radio on when you go out.
- Ensure all doors and windows are locked.
- If possible, install external lighting to your house.
- Consider installing CCTV, alarm or defensive planting.
