Following the recent reports of the structural issues associated with Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), the Council has been inspecting our buildings to see if any of them contain this type of concrete.

These inspections are nearly complete with over 180 assessed. So far, RAAC has only been found within one building, which is Camberley Theatre.  Whilst this does not present an immediate risk, further checks are being made to see if any work is needed to further preserve the life span of the building.

Cllr John Skipper, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Surrey Heath Borough Council said:

“Our property team have identified RAAC in Camberley Theatre, but we want to reassure the Theatre’s customers that nothing has been found to suggest that the structure is unsafe in its present condition. The building has also been surveyed by structural engineers who are currently preparing a report to advise if follow-up action is required.

The safety of theatre customers and staff is our number one priority and if the technical advice requires, we will take immediate action as needed. We will update residents with any new information about the Theatre’s status in due course.”
