Puccini wrote his Messa di Gloria at the tender age of 18 as his graduation piece at the Lucca Institute Musicale. The style is unashamedly operatic, full of colour, vitality and musical surprises. Puccini went on to concentrate on operatic music and it was not until long after his death that the Messa di Gloria was published and finally performed. The Stabat Mater by Rossini also has echoes of operatic style - tuneful and extrovert - but with intricate harmonies and subtle scoring. The Surrey Heath Singers are a well established choral society based in Camberley, ably conducted by Andrew Phillips and accompanied by Geoff Tuson on organ. The acoustics and organ at this new venue should make for an exciting musical experience. Tickets from Camberley Travel or Online - Email - Phone 01276 66049
