Surrey Heath Sports Awards 2019 shortlists revealed

The awards recognise the talented athletes, committed coaches, and tireless volunteers who champion sport and physical activity in the Borough. 

Following a great year of sport in Surrey Heath, dozens of nominations were received from the public for these wide-ranging awards. 

These were whittled down to a shortlist in each category before the winners were selected by the Surrey Heath Sports Council. 

To be eligible for the awards, you need to be a Surrey Heath resident, or play or be involved in sport in the Borough.   

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Monday 21 October at Camberley Theatre – good luck to all those nominated! 

Active Surrey Coach/Leader or Instructor of the Year 

  • Jamie Gregson – Curley Park Rangers 
  • Gabrielle Dunnage – Bagshot Cricket Club 
  • Kim Johnson - Camberley Rugby Club 

The Massage Company Outstanding Service to Sport Award 

  • David Smith - Sporting Ring Amateur Boxing Club 
  • Anna Strong and Sarah Beavis - Fins Swimming Club 
  • Leah Jackson – Turners Boxing Academy 

Places Leisure Sports Personality of the Year 

  • Daniel Magee – Great Britain Powerlifting 
  • Mark Symes - Aldershot, Farnham & District Athletics 
  • Chris Hockey – England Lacrosse 

CD Fitness Young Sports Personality of the Year 

  • Mikayla Dodson – Camberley Town Youth FC 
  • Siddhanth Shirol – Swifts Badminton Club 
  • Charlotte Jennings-Evans - Saracens Mavericks 

Complete Coaching Disability Sports Award 

  • Penny Froude – Boccia England 
  • Welcome Wizards FC – Surrey Heath’s ‘mental health football team’ 

Surrey Playing Fields Volunteer of the Year 

  • Ollie Pile – Camberley Judo Club 
  • Abigail Balcombe – Bagshot Cricket Club 
  • Mikayla Dodson – Camberley Town Youth FC 

Surrey Security Community Project of the Year 

  • Creative Dance at Windle Valley Day Centre, Bagshot 
  • Whatever the Weather Project at Camberley Theatre - Imogen Butler/Surrey Arts Partnership 
  • Fins Swimming Club Water Safety 

All the winners in the Surrey Heath Sports Awards are automatically added to the shortlist for the county-wide Surrey Sports Awards.
