The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games is back, and Surrey Heath Borough Council is offering free taster sessions for young people aged 6-16 in 12 unique activities from April to June.

You can choose from cage cricket (a disability sport), boxing, table tennis, obstacle challenge, basketball and many more.

Sessions are hosted at local schools, clubs and leisure facilities across the Borough, either after school or at the weekend, and are led by our dedicated team of coaches.

These ‘taster’ sessions could open the door to a lifelong love of getting active, while providing a fantastic chance to meet new people and have fun with friends. Sessions are aimed at complete beginners with the aim of providing the perfect environment to try a new activity and have fun!

Following taster sessions, every young person who takes part has the chance of being chosen to represent ‘Team Surrey Heath’ at the festival weekend at Surrey Sports Park, coordinated by Active Surrey.

The unique Olympic style event, on 13-14 June, sees all 11 boroughs and districts in Surrey come together to show off their skills. Last year around 2,000 young people took part in the largest youth festival of sport in Surrey.

Surrey Heath Portfolio Holder for Places and Strategy Cllr Rebecca Jennings-Evans said: “The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games is a brilliant initiative that offers young people from across the Borough the opportunity to access different sports and physical activity, maybe for the first time.

"We are lucky to have a whole host of top quality clubs and facilities that are hosting this year’s taster sessions - I'd encourage as many people as possible to sign up and have fun!"

Coaching sessions are open to beginners and non-club players (each activity is open to specific age groups/gender) currently living and/or attending school in Surrey Heath.
