Chief Executive’s Remuneration - Statement

Friday, 2 August, 2019

The Council’s key priority for a number of years has been to improve Camberley Town centre for the benefit of the Borough. Over the past 3 years, we have made significant progress and the success of the Council’s investments has ensured that we have not needed to cut services which would have impacted our most vulnerable residents.

Since 2016 the Council has acquired a large property portfolio and a significant portion of the Chief Executive’s role is now centred around that portfolio on a commercial basis.

In 2018 the previous Leader of the Council decided that a full review of the senior management structure was needed and should include consideration of the Chief Executive’s remuneration, which was last reviewed in 2004.

In early 2019 an allowance equivalent to £15,000 per annum was approved by the then Leader to recognise the additional work and responsibilities being undertaken by the Chief Executive.

The reason the payment appears disproportionate in the 2018/19 draft financial accounts is because the total payment has been backdated to October 2016.
