The Surrey Heath walk took place at Lightwater Country Park at 10am on New Year's Day and was aimed at new walkers who want to make an effort to walk more, as well as families who want to enjoy being active together.
Thanks to everyone who came along - we had more than 85 walkers of all ages who took part, which was fantastic!
Those who came along joined our Walking for Health scheme coordinator Craig Alford for a 2km ramble along the Heathland trail which takes in ponds, heathland and woodland.
There were also free pedometers, and a complimentary jacket potato with filling in the Lightwater Country Park café afterwards. Thanks so much to the cafe for their help and support with the event.
There was also a prize draw for those who took part – congratulations to the lucky winners and thanks to our sponsors for providing the great prizes!
Family Foot golf or Pitch and Putt at Frimley Lodge Park - Sandra Warne
£20 The Square shopping voucher - Jenny Benson
Family swim at the Arena Leisure Centre - Hari Harindranath, Yusif Probert, Jan Dickerson, Louise Beamish, Trevor Honey
Cream Tea for Two at Lightwater Country Park café - Alan Barrott
Well done to all those involved for kicking off 2018 in an active, healthy way.
For anyone interested in making walking a regular activity - for health, exercise and social reasons! - we run regular free guided walks across the Borough.
More details in our Walks brochure for Jan-April, which is online here.
We’re also planning a similar family-friendly walk at Easter, so watch this space for more news on that in due course.
