Reoccupation Relief Application

The Government has announced that Local Authorities can grant a discount of 50% to ratepayers moving into previously empty retail premises between 1st April 2014 and 31st March 2016. This applies in cases where a ratepayer occupies a property of any rateable value which has been empty for 12 months or more prior to reoccupation, which when previously in use, was used wholly or mainly for retail purposes and is being used for any use (with some exceptions).

This relief is awarded under section 47 of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 and is subject to EU State Aid de minimis limits.
