Illustrated Talks

Surrey Heath Museum offer a wide range of talks lasting 45 minutes and costing a suggested donation of £50.

1. The Shape of People
The talk covers two centuries of changing fashions, looking at the influences on fashion from technological advancements and societal attitudes. The talk looks at the changing shape of clothes and features items from the museum's collection.

2. Camberley and York Town during World War II
This talk is based on a war time reminiscence project and looks at life in the area during the War Years. Featuring photographs, documents, reminiscences and items from the museum's collection.

3. Percy Harland Fisher
Surrey Heath Museum has a large collection of paintings by Percy Harland Fisher, a renowned artist who chose to live in Camberley from 1903 onwards. Percy studied at Dulwich College and after a period abroad, settled in the town, painting local scenes and portraits of people and animals. The talk features the paintings in the museum's collection.

4. The Ghosts and Ghouls of Surrey Heath
A look at the various ghostly sightings seen in this area and placing a historical view point. Find out about the Frimley Vicar, the ghost of Mary Ann Hogg, an 18th stagecoach and the 17th gentleman dressed in a white smock and seen at Mytchett Lake. Over 15 ghosts are featured alongside items from the museum's collection.

5. Leisure and Pleasure
Pastimes and hobbies, sports, music and drama, outings, highdays and holidays; a wealth of slides to illustrate how people made their own amusements in Surrey Heath in times gone by.

6. Shopping in the Past
A look at how we used to shop, based on local photos and reminiscences and featuring haberdashers, ironmongers, military tailors, grocers and chemists; the talk traces major changes seen over a number of years.

7. Behind the Scenes at the Museum
Find out about the museum collection and the work of the Curatorial team. Featuring objects from the collection with a unique glimpse behind the scenes. This talk can be booked to take place at the museum with a special guided tour of the stores.

8. Built to Serve
A talk on the history of Camberley and York Town, how the town's grew and their association with the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

9.Village Life in photographs
Photographs from the museum's collection featuring village life for over 150 years - covering Bagshot, Bisley, Frimley, Frimley Green, Lightwater, Mytchett, West End and Windlesham.

10. Sporting Life in Surrey Heath
This talk covers the sporting heritage of the area and features football, cricket, boxing, netball, swimming, shooting, running and much, much more. There is also information on the area's role in the 1948 Olympics and London 2012.
